The brothers Mayo

collect005.jpgWhen I came back from lunch today, these two portraits were sitting in my office. They are of Dr. Charles and Dr. William Mayo (respectively). Their portraits have graced the entry into the Mayo Memorial Auditorium for years, but now due to its ongoing renovation they have been removed. Little is known about the portraits, the artist, or their donation (purchase?) to/by the University.

The artist’s signature reads: Minerva Lyons Eisenberg.

I look forward to learning more about my new office mates. I’ll update with what I find.

I have recently purchased a large oil painting of Sir Winston Churchill. It is signed by Minerva Lyons Eisenberg. It is framed 28×33 and the picture itself is 18 1/2 by 23 3/4. I have learned the artist is from Newcastle-on-the-Tyne in England. I am looking to find out what it’s worth and if anyone is interested in buying it from me. If you know of anyone have them email me.
It’s a beautiful picture of him.
    Thanks, Pat Pfingsten

  2. I was searching on line for the artist Minerva Lyons Eisenberg as well. I had purchased a framed painting of Leonardo Da Vinci at a thrift store in Hopkins, MN. I teach 3rd and 4th graders in Minneapolis and we are learning about Leonardo Da Vinci so I have the portrait in my classroom (acrylics- is my guess/on canvas). It is a good likeness, I think.
